"We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life."
Salvation comes first. A person is not made right with God by entering into a pool of water and being baptized. A person is made right when they respond to the Gospel by repenting of their sins, placing their faith and trust in what Jesus has done in his sinless LIFE, his sacrificial DEATH & RESURRECTION. This is what the bible refers to as salvation.
We believe according to scripture, people who have experienced salvation through Jesus, should be baptized as an act of obedience to His command in Matthew 28:19. Baptism is not washing sins away. Baptism is simply an outward expression of what Jesus has done in someones life once they have responded to the Gospel and made Jesus Lord of their life. Though it may be simple, it is powerful. It is a picture of the old sinful person dying and the brand new person being raised to life in Christ.
